Requirements

We are looking for a mature person (or couple) as a permanent unpaid caretaker for our Cape York cattle station, five hours drive north of Mareeba.

The ideal person/s would enjoy peace and quiet, have previous experience living or working in a remote area, be honest and reliable and be mechanically minded.

The position is unpaid but includes accommodation, food and fuel for the genset. In exchange the caretaker would do the following:

1) Feed the pet pig;

2) Keep the grass within the home paddock cut;

3) Maintain a presence at the homestead for security purposes; and

4) Other duties as may be required to keep the property in reasonable shape.

Paid work (such as assisting with cattle, slashing and fencing) may be available during the Dry season.

Pet dogs are welcome but working or hunting dogs are not. The accommodation consists of donga-style accommodation (four bedrooms), with a covering roof, toilet, shower and small kitchen. Alternatively, those with a caravan or camper-trailer are welcome to bring their own accommodation.

Good quality water is sourced from a bore and food is ordered weekly from Mareeba IGA and delivered by the mail plane every Thursday. The station is well supported by the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
