Assignment Requirements

House- and pet-sitter wanted — inner west Sydney, Christmas/January

We're looking for a calm, tidy and reliable person or couple to look after our home and animals from Thursday 17 December to Wednesday 13 January (27 nights). We need the full period covered, sorry — no partial stays.

The animals: a very sweet 12-year-old Labrador who needs one walk a day, and three cats. None of them are hard work — they mostly want company and someone home in the evenings.

The house: newly renovated, quiet leafy street a four-minute walk from Hurlstone Park station. Ducted air-con, a pool, [fast wifi / off-street parking / a proper desk if you work from home].

The arrangement: free stay in exchange for caring for the animals and the house. We cover all bills and the pool service. In return we ask: no parties, no extra people staying, no smoking indoors, and the animals aren't left alone overnight.

Before we confirm: we'd like two references we can call, and a cuppa here beforehand so you can meet the animals and see how you go together.

Hurlstone Park is Sydney's hidden gem. It's 15 minutes on the metro into the Sydney CBD, but only a few minutes' walk to the tranquil Cooks River. The path runs all the way to the beach at Brighton-Le-Sands, or head west and it takes you to Sydney Olympic Park. Perfect for anyone who loves to jog, walk, run or ride. Head 10 minutes in the other direction and you'll find the Cooks to Cove GreenWay. We're a five-minute walk to the main shops on Crinan Street — everything you really need, from an IGA supermarket, newsagency, hairdresser, nail salon and post office to three cafes (HP Source, Kylon and Baked by Dora), Frankly Nicks for incredible pizza, just opened near the station, the HP Bowlo wine bar, and a bottle shop for an evening beverage. The gentle hum of Hurlstone Park means evenings are typically calm — a relaxing end to a day spent exploring or pottering about the house. Life here centres on the local waterways and neighbourhood parks, so looking after the animals and getting to know the area tend to fold into the same walk. It's a grounded, outdoor-focused pocket of the inner west.
