Requirements

Our home is a rustic timber pole-framed house on 10 acres of bushland 5kms from Gympie, set back from the road and a registered "Land for Wildlife" property.

We almost laughed when we saw the option of selecting "average garden or plant care" involving watering and mowing of lawn, because our property is on a dry, shaly, ridge and "lawn" is not a reality. We do, however, have potted plants in an outdoor sitting area, a flower garden and one or (if Fiona has her way by the time of the housesit) two fairy gardens to be watered if it doesn't rain during the week of our absence.

Our housesitters will need to have calm assertive energy (Cesar Milan style) around our 12 year-old Sally (a highly strung Border Collie/Blue Heeler), who was abused by a former owner, as she can be a "nervous nipper". They will also need to be firm with our very sooky 10 year-old love-sponge Cadbury (a Staffy-cross pup of Sally's), or he will charm his way onto their laps. He was born after she was given to us, so he has experienced no trauma as she has. Until recently they were both verandah dogs not permitted inside but, as they've felt the extremes of temperature more as they've become older, they now have mats inside the house from which they can enjoy the warmth of the wood heater in cold weather or the mobile air conditioner on the hottest summer days while we are awake and in the house. Cadbury would try to push the boundaries and come to us wherever we are in the house if we let him, but our housesitters would need to be able to resist his doleful eyes and remain the leaders of the pack. Sally is the most obedient, loyal, dog in the world and does her best to keep him in check but becomes very upset with him when he breaks the rules in his quest for more love and she feels it keenly if he is shown favouritism.

Our housesitters will need to be mobile and fit as our dogs need to be walked for at least half an hour twice per day and the bedrooms in our house are upstairs. They will also need to be non-smokers with clean, sober habits.

We have Wi-fi internet, Telstra TV and Netflix, as well as a verandah from which to enjoy the tranquility of the bush. We have no BBQ area as such, but a gas Weber BabyQ and a Fornette Wood-fired Smoker and Oven are available on the verandah for your use if you enjoy cooking outdoors.

The kitchen and bathroom were recently renovated, the bathroom featuring a free-standing bath which is heavenly to soak in (Epsom salts provided for extra relaxation power).

Our housesitters can chill out and recharge at our home and imagine themselves miles from anywhere or enjoy all the distractions of a large rural town offered in Gympie only 5 minutes away. Our home is also only 1 hour from either Rainbow Beach, Tin Can Bay or Noosa.
