House sit EAGLEHAWK

03-Sep-2026 – 01-Oct-2026
29 Days stay
Responsiveness

Assignment Requirements

If you like old world houses and gardens I think you would enjoy staying at my place. The house is a large renovated, tuck-pointed brick, former church manse in central Eaglehawk, a suburb of Bendigo, with a lovely garden. I live in very easy walking distance to the Eaglehawk shops (just around the corner) and to the 2 lakes Neanger and Tom Thumb and the Peter Krenz Leisure Centre and the wonderful playground on Lake Neanger. The Star cinema where you watch films on couches with your Choc Top or wine is sited in our old town hall.

My house has a sunny breakfast room which looks onto the back garden. The master bedroom has an art deco ensuite and a wall mounted Samsung Frame TV which can be viewed from the 4 poster bed.

I am in the process of revamping the house and garden now that I have retired: decluttering and restoring is ongoing.

Most important is the care of my 2 female whippets, Cricket and Audrey. They are clean, quiet and very gentle and loving – but nervous in new situations. They sleep most of the day on top of my bed but they do have their own beds in my bedroom to sleep in at night. Most days I walk them around the 2 pleasant lakes that are close by.

Also I need care for my 2 hens Henny and Cluck. My chooks live in the gated side garden (it used to be beautiful but they've destroyed the understory and all the grass). They need locking in their coop at night and feeding and letting out in the morning. They will need their coop cleaned about once a week and their food and water containers kept topped up.

I also have 8 goldfish in large water pots in the back garden.

I have Peter who does the lawnmowing, and a sprinkler system, but the vegies and pots under verandas might need an extra drink - you wouldn't be expected to do a lot there. My cleaning lady Laura will continue to come on Mondays at 9am to do the wet areas and floors – but she might be taking a week off while you are here (tbc).

There is a bus stop just around the corner for local public transport. Rather than take a car, I would recommend Vline train travel to Melbourne – it takes about 2 hours. It's very affordable and comfortable. Eaglehawk station is only a couple of blocks walk from the shops if you know the short cut - but there are many more departure options from Bendigo station which is 15 minutes away (I have made it in 10 but maybe I didn’t stick to the speed limit!).

Ideally I would like to meet with you before I leave.

I have a day, or perhaps 2, of flexibility to extend my holiday finish date by a day at the end of this sit if this is a better fit for your plans
