Requirements

We are Tony and Anne, an active, recently retired couple in our 60s.

We have a lovely house that we built ourselves on 30 acres nestled into the Mapleton National Park. The house is 3 bedrooms and is completely off grid with solar power, dam and rainwater and gas stove/hot water. Children like to call it the treehouse as one side sits up in the trees.

We have 2 goats, 1 dog and a gaggle of chooks. There is a large veggie garden also.

Our place is idyllic but a little isolated for some tastes. We sit on the edge of the national park on a ridge above the valley. Our nearest neighbour is around a kilometer away. We are 9 kilometers from Mapleton village by a fairly rough forest track that can be challenging for a lot of vehicles. Alternatively, we can be accessed off the Kenilworth Eumundi road for a smoother ride but our track from the front gate to the house is very steep.

If you want glorious isolation, to be nestled in the treetops with views out over the valley to never logged forest, where the only sounds are from the abundant bird life then this place is for you. However, if the isolation, the terrain and the distance from shops seems daunting our place might not be your best choice.

Having said that, we are not really as isolated as I might make it sound. There is a good community of neighbours in our valley and we are only 45 minutes from the beaches of the sunshine coast. The surrounding forest and beautiful places in the hinterland provide myriad opportuinites to explore and exercise.

We will be going on a road trip to W.A. during May and June and would love to have some caring sitters who will love the place as we do.

To care for this place in our absence you will need to be willing and able to perform the following tasks; blow leaves from roofs on a regular basis, manage the water system and pumps if required, water plants and keep the veggie garden in order, manage the solar power system and feed and care for the animals.

None of these tasks are difficult or arduous but do require a willingness to engage and a certain level of experience or common sense.
