Requirements

We are travelling overseas to finally visit my husband's relatives in June/July 2022. Our home is situated on 50 acres in a lovely valley in South-East Gippsland, near the town of Yarram. Only approx. 6 acres is cleared with the rest being left for wildlife. The property is in one of the last remaining pieces of cool-temperate rainforest left on the mainland and is very close to the Tarra Bulga National Park.

We are looking for an active and handy person or couple to mind our large (38kg), 6 year old rescue dog, Buddy and our double-storey chalet/house. While the house is large, there are only a small number of rooms set out as bedrooms. You would most likely be living downstairs (40 squares) which has all the facilities of a regular house (kitchen, separate pantry, full laundry, dining room, lounge room, bedroom and large en-suite bathroom). The space also has a very large balcony to enjoy the views. The downstairs TV has access to FOXTEL and we have a Starlink satellite which provides unlimited, comparatively high speed internet access (c/f broadband). Please note that there is no mobile reception in Tarra Valley. We connect via wifi from the house. We have a landline as well.

We are avid gardeners and have created a very large, primarily tree garden over the past 17 years. We have tried to make it as low maintenance as possible with an emphasis on natives. Main tasks would be to keep lawns around the house mowed (Kubota 18hp power steering), pruning, raking pathways, pumping up water if need be (involves flicking a switch) etc.

Our house is 20kms away from the nearest town of Yarram and 45 minutes away from Traralgon and without suburban services such as garbage collection and water. We have a great set-up though which works well for us but you would need to feel comfortable living without city conveniences. This would truly be a getting away from it all, quiet kind of house sit gig. The valley has a close-knit group of very friendly people to get to know and is also full of an amazing array of birds and wildlife. The house is just across the road from the Tarra River and as such provides a great area for interesting walks, picnics etc.

Buddy is an active, 'boofy' kinda guy who greets people like they're a special treat all just for him. Once he settles, he is extremely loving and happy to chill. He has had extensive 'puppy/dog training' and gets on surprisingly well with other dogs and humans. He has lived with my elderly mother for the past 3 years and has developed into a fabulous carer for her. His needs are quite simple with 2 feeds, a play session, one walk (2kms) a day and he's set.

We look forward to hearing from you if you feel that this house sit sounds like a good fit for you!
