Requirements

We are in a 1930's timber cottage on a rural property in the Huon Valley, in a valley setting a 5km drive out of Cygnet. Pets needing daily attention are a male toy poodle with an annoying bark who needs (a) to be inside most of the time and (b)daily walks or plays. There is also a shy female cat whose domain is the back (fenced) garden. She needs access to the house during the day to eat and to be kept indoors at night. We also have 2 cockatiels who need fresh food and water daily. They are used to coming out to fly around during the day and need to go back in their cage before dusk. They will fly comfortably around you and sit on your shoulder but are not used to being handled. We need a sitter who is understanding of and patient with animals' temperaments. In the outer paddock are two draft horses (Belgian Draft crosses). They are VERY large and used to having the run of the paddocks. Due to their size and the fact that they are used to running free, they must be treated with respect. It is unlikely they will need to be handled at that time of the year but it is important that we have a sitter with some knowledge of and experience with horses who is comfortable with them and able to gauge on observation if there is a problem. Whoever sits for us must be sensible and conscientious, i.e. remember to close gates behind them and not have windows open if the birds are coming out. A pre-sit visit is considered essential in view of the different animals' needs and the fact that this is a rural property with tank water, pumps etc. Arrival a day or two before we leave is not a problem as we have a well-appointed outside pickers'' hut with use of a separate bathroom. There are friendly neighbours to call if required.
